What happened to pens?

The other day, I had to fill a form for something. Nothing much, just the name, email ID and phone number. I took the pen, held it, started to write my name and it felt awkward. Totally awkward. I couldn’t even get to grip the pen properly. Then I thought about it.

Back in school too, I had this problem when I was away from a pen for a while. Sometimes, it would be awkward on Mondays when I don’t use the pen at all on the weekend. Handwritings would be different after the mid term breaks. Things would be much worse after the summer breaks. The first few pages of every book would have a handwriting totally different from my usual one. At times, I’d open a book, see the first few pages and cross check the name slip to see if the book was indeed mine.

I used to be fond of pens and writing. I used to check stationary shops if new pens had arrived and buy them. I used to know the prices of pens and their refills. I liked to write too. Not the writer/author kind of writing, just scribbling something. While I study, I’d memorise things and write them down to make sure that thing has got into my brain cells. Of course, these things stopped as soon as I got out of school.

Back to the current scene, I couldn’t even get to write my name properly. In the past year and a half I had used pens only to sign credit/debit card swipe receipts and to scratch my back. I don’t even remember the last time I bought a pen. (Had bought one as a gift for someone a few months back, but that doesn’t count). I’m guessing 2-3 years.

Pens are being phased out from this world completely. Every use of the pen is being replaced by electronic media. Students are recording lectures instead of taking notes, exams are electronic, assignments are .doc files, application forms are .php files, even small hotels and shops have a bill printer, people don’t do the rubber-pen thingy on small kids anymore and pen fight is an extinct game. Damn, miss those old days.

#35 – Untitled

Recently shifted to a new place. This is the 3rd house in 14 months. Guess I’ll save all the good stuff for later and tell all the million readers story of the 3 houses.

House 1

This house was perfect. Good location – was pretty much close to the most happening places in the city and was located pretty much near the center of the city. Accessibility was the best advantage here. City buses ply almost 24×7 along the road near the house and the frequency of buses was almost 1 in 5 minutes. Almost all places (at least the ones that matter) could be reached within 2 hops from this place. Using public transport as reference because, it is green. Nothing to do with the fact that I don’t have my own vehicle and autos and cabs are fucking expensive. All goods/services were available within a 200 metre radius from this house. Hotels and Restaurants of various cuisines and styles ranging from extremely economic to a 5 star one, pizza, burger and fried chicken joints, all sorta grocery shops in addition to 2 supermarkets, few textile and cloth brands, booze, bla bla bla. In short, almost everything that you need is available within 5 min walking distance. Some hotels were open late night, even up to 4 am. The roads were clean and dust free. There were trees on the roadside and the footpath was pretty wide. Had walked on that footpath almost every other day because it was so awesome and not because of the eye-candy chicks and MILFs that would walk their pugs in the evenings. Heaven right ?  (more…)

YouTube stuff

Just a list of some of the YouTube channels i am subscribed to.

Equals Three equals3logo

Hosted by Ray William Johnson, this channel is the most subscribed channel on YouTube and has accumulated over a billion and a half views. Each of his videos has over 5 million views and his videos are always present among the most viewed videos of the day, week or month. Basically, he reviews viral videos, but the way he does it is amazing. Do check it out.

Just For Laughs JFLlogo

Remember the Just For Laughs : Gags on TV? Its the same shit. There are over 2500 videos on this channel. For those who have no idea, these are videos where they play pranks on real people; sober ones that can be aired on national TV. Every one of their video makes you laugh.

Annoying Orange AnnoyingOrangelogo

Don’t worry, its not you that ‘Orange’ annoys. Set in a kitchen, things revolve around an Orange and other friends and vegetables. Sounds kinda lame but you will be hooked to the channel once you watch a video. Updated every friday.

Philip DeFranco Show PDSlogo

In his words, “This isn’t really a show, it’s just me talking about some of the stuff in the news that matters to me,” and thats what he exactly does. If you have similar tastes with him, you’d love this.

What The Buck Show WhatTheBucklogo

In terms of content, this is similar to the Philip De Franco show. But this guy is gay and there’s a lot of gayness in all his videos (no, not gayporn). Some of the news he reviews are really lame but does a great job otherwise. This guy may not be as awesome as Neil Patrick Harris, but does a good job.

Peter Chao PeterChaologo

Similar to the above two but this guy is Asian and his presentation is much different from the previous two. The guy always wears shades and has the most amazing laugh sound EVER. Rarely do these channels have the same news, so do not ignore this one.

DragTimesInfo dragtimesinfologo

Into cars and bikes? Love drag racing? This is the right channel for you. The language is Russian but who gives a damn when these engineering marvels race against each other and their multi cylinder exhaust notes AREN’T cut off by some background music?

FastLaneDaily fastlanedailylogo

News from the automobile world, presented by DerekD in the best possible way. This is one news channel you won’t mind watching.

Friday Night Cranks FNClogo

Prank calls on every friday, live. Awesome stuff. You could learn a thing or two here, if you know what I mean 😉
